Wednesday I Holiday Day-Out: Old Melbourne Gaol
Old Melbourne Gaol was built in the mid-1800s and used as a jail for dangerous criminals who were held alongside petty offenders, the homeless and the mentally ill.
From 1842 to 1929, the gaol was the scene of 133 hangings including Australia’s most infamous citizen, the bushranger Ned Kelly.
Now, it is open to tourists.
Next to it is the RMIT city campus, while State Library Victory is just 3 minutes away.
The RMIT city campus has some hidden pockets which are perfect for picture taking and picnic snacks and spring sunning.
16 minutes walk away is the famous Lygon St, Carlton, great place for lunch and coffee.
7 minutes from Carlton, good for a walk to unwind before heading home.
